Dark Chocolate

Food of the Gods

Cacao, from which dark chocolate is produced, was named "Theobroma" by Linnaeus. The word means "food of the gods".

From its wild Amazon roots, cacao moved north to Central America, where Mayans began its cultivation in 1500 BC. The Mayans developed a sophisticated fermentation process that turned the cacao bean into a versatile medicine and a revered ceremonial drink.

It was supposedly in Mexico that the pounded seeds were named 'Chocolate.'

"Researchers have discovered that chocolate produced some of the same reactions in the brain as marijuana. The researchers also discovered other similarities between the two, but can't remember what they are."
..........Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show

Cacao is rich in specific antioxidants such as catechins and epicatechins, the antioxidants found in green tea, as well as flavonoids, proanthocyanidins and polyphenols, the antioxidants found in red wine and grape seeds.

In fact, at least one study found that cacao is more beneficial to health than green tea or red wine in terms of its higher antioxidant capacity.

Chocolate As Nutrition

This has got to be a pretty easy sell, for athletes or anyone else. But there is good and there is better. And then there is milk chocolate, which is definitely not health food.

You can find dark chocolate anywhere. If you look a little, you can find organic dark chocolate, a decided improvement.

But if you use our contact form to inquire, I will tell you all about the dark chocolate that I believe puts all others into a lesser category.
